LT. COL. CONRAD R. ARMSTRONG U.S. ARMY RETIRED - 1928 - 2013 Died peacefully on May 31, 2013, at The Palms of Sebring. Born to Laura (Capistran) White and Wenseslas Armstrong. LTC. Armstrong served in the Marine Corps during WW II and in Korea, where he served with the 3rd Infantry Division. LTC Armstrong flew Medical Evacuation helicopters during combat operations in Korea. He retired from the military after 42 years of Active and Reserve duty. LTC Armstrong was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Combat Medical Badge; Army Commendation Medal (two awards); U.S. Presidential Citation Medal and the Korean Presidential Medal. Following his active military service, LTC Armstrong served as Assistant Administrator of the Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester, NY. Later he was appointed as Associate Administrator of the F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, NY. In 1961, he was appointed as Vice President of Winchester Hospital, Winchester, MA and retired from that position in 1986. LTC Armstrong is credited by the American Hospital Association for originating the first known one-day surgery unit in the Country in 1964-1965, while at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. LTC Armstrong was Past President of the Winchester Rotary Club; served on the town of Rome, Maine Planning Board; was past President of the Palms Association; Life member of the Reserve Officers Association; Life member of the Health Care Administrators of America; Life member of the National Association of Uniformed Services and the American Legion. He was predeceased by his wife, Emily. LTC Armstrong leaves a son, Thomas of Peru, NY; daughters, Patrice Hartnett of Longwood, FL; Lisa Misiaszek of Auburn, NH and Laurie Armstrong Whitney of Germantown, TN; sister, Doris Armstrong of Manchester, NH; brothers, Donald Armstrong of Hooksett, NH and Richard Armstrong of Pembroke, NH; many nieces and nephews and his legacy of eight loving grandchildren.
