Lorin “Van” Lee Vanbrookhoven, aged 84, passed away on November 4, 2024, in Sebring, Florida. He was born on October 25, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Gene and Irene Vanbrookhoven. Also preceded in death by his wife Judee and loving sister Karen Sue Taylor.
Van served his country with honor and distinction in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. His sense of duty and commitment extended into his civilian life, where he continued to serve the public through a long career in Civil Service. Those who knew Van remember him as a dedicated, loyal, and meticulous professional who took pride in his work and the opportunity to support his country. Van had a passion for music and became a great guitarist. Both friends and family loved to hear Van pick the strings, or as he would say “Just Chuck It!”.
In 2004, Van moved to Sebring, Florida, from Seaford, Virginia, where he and his late wife, Judee, shared a devoted and loving marriage. Judee was the light of Van’s life, and he cherished every moment with her. Together, they created a life filled with love, respect, and quiet joy.
Van is survived by his brother-in-law Joy Taylor Jr.; his nieces and nephew, Jean Martin (Michael), Irene Taylor (Kris) and Joy Taylor III; his cousins Carol Stroede (Art) and Lynne Levy (Gary); friends Mildred Toddings, Cheryl Ward and many other family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and resilience, inspiring all who knew him to approach life with purpose and devotion.
Van’s memorial service will be held on November 23, 2024 at 1pm located at Stephenson Nelson Funeral Home, 4001 Sebring Parkway, Sebring, FL. Friends and family are welcome to join in this celebration of Van’s life.
May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Judee.
