Loren Thomas "Tom" Morrison of Sebring, FL, age 81, died January 6, 2023 at Advent Health in Sebring, FL. He was born November 6, 1941 in Burlington Iowa to Loren Newton Morrison and Virginia Maxine Rhodes. He married Tanya Carter in 1961 in Burlington, Iowa. They later divorced. Tom married Gwen Morrison on August 23, 1985 in Moran, Wyoming. She preceded him in death. Tom graduated from Burlington High School. Tom lived most of his life in Burlington, IA; Carman, IL; and Gladstone, IL: moving to Sebring, FL in 2020.
Tom worked at J.I. Case for more than 30 years as a Skilled Trades Welder. He served as a proud member of the UAW 807, holding various offices within the union. He also served the Gladstone Village as board trustee, township supervisor, water district board, and member of the Masonic Lodge. Tom loved cars, Saturday night at the races, happy hour in Florida, golf, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include special friend and companion, Carolyn Scott of Sebring, FL; sons, John (Amanda Johnson) Morrison of Burlington, Iowa and Rod (Shirley) Morrison of Cameron, MO; step-daughter Angela (Dean) Millizer of Avon, IL; stepsons Bradley Thye of Madison, TN, Jerry (Leslie) Thye of Guyman, OK; Jim Thye of Oquawka, IL; grandchildren Hallie (Mike) Eisnnicher, Dan (Katy) Morrison, Mindy (Luke) Jones, Tucker Morrison, Carter (Kate Meixner) Morrison, Samuel Morrison, Kelsie (Michael) Rose, Felicia (Taylor Anderson) Torrance, Rachel (Todd) Gann, Michael Thye, Janice (Omar Uribe) Thye, James (Candice) Thye, Jason (Edith Avila) Hager, 34 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gwen Morrison, sister and brother-in-law John and Sandy Schreiner, and step-son Bret Thye.
Services will be held in Illinois this Spring with family receiving friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2023 followed by a Celebration of Life service at 6:00 p.m. at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, IL. A memorial fund has been established for the Gladstone Fire and Rescue, PO Box 44, Gladstone, IL 61437.
