Velma Mary "Lois" Floyd Martin, 81, died in Athens, Alabama on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was surrounded by her family when she went to meet her Lord. Born in Avon Park, Florida May, 6, 1931, Lois had led a very active and serving life until she succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer's. She was married to the love of her life for 51 years until Cola's death in 2000. Lois had been a Gray Lady with the American Red Cross and an Eastern Star. She faced the horrid disease of Alzheimer's with the same grace that made her such an amazing Officer's Wife and mother. She will be interred in Pinecrest Cemetery in Sebring, Florida. She is survived by her younger brother Claude Floyd of West Palm Beach, Florida; son Gary and Jonell Wadlington Martin of La Place, Louisiana; daughter Pamela and Michael Blackburn of Athens, Alabama; grandchildren Maryjane Johnson, Emma Blackburn and Lillie Blackburn, one great grandchild Isaiah Johnson, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be handled by Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, Florida on Monday December 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., visitation will be at 9:30 a.m., at the funeral home. There will be a memorial service in Athens, Alabama, details to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local Alzheimer's association are appreciated.
