Linda Plummer Trevey

March 7, 1942 — February 19, 2016

Linda Plummer Trevey, age 73, of Sebring, Florida, went home to be with her Lord on February 19, 2016, while under the care of Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, Florida. She passed with her husband and her children by her side.  Linda was born March 7, 1942, the daughter of Roy L. and Ronie B. Plummer. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Jones Trevey; sister Mary Lou Bass in Durham, NC; and brother Ronnie L. Plummer in Winston Salem, NC. She also leaves behind four loving children, a daughter, Leigh Trevey Tanner, and son-in-law, Hal, and four grandchildren: Georgia, Hil, Margaret and Mary Crawford of Goldsboro, NC, a daughter, Kimberly Trevey Hewett, and son-in-law, Ron, and three grandchildren: Carson, Winston and Trevey Ann of Nashville, TN, a daughter, Mary Trevey Ragsdale, and son-in-law, Will, and four granddaughters: Elizabeth, Lucy, Mary Katherine and Addison of Jamestown, NC, and a son, Christopher Plummer Trevey, and daughter-in-law, Jane, and grandsons: Walker and Whit of Greensboro, NC. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Betty Trevey Blue and husband David of Lynchburg, VA and a brother-in-law, Jim Trevey and wife Donna of Richmond, VA. Linda is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews living in California, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Linda graduated from Morehead High School in Eden, NC and attended Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. She married Jerry, and they started their lives together in Blacksburg, Virginia. After which they moved to Big Island, Virginia; Lambertville, Michigan and then to Salisbury, NC. While in Salisbury, she partnered with others to start a successful residential real estate business, and was active in many civic organizations, as well as the First Presbyterian Church. She and Jerry then moved to Chicago for the last decade of his career. Upon retirement, they moved to Terrapin Mountain outside of Big Island, VA, where Jerry was born and raised and they became active members of the Big Island Baptist Church. There they built their beloved family farmhouse at the foot of the mountain. The farmhouse became the family homestead and host for hundreds of family holidays and unforgettable memories. Linda was an avid golfer, gifted gardener and loyal friend. Linda was truly a people person with a contagious and beautiful smile. She thrived in their new Florida Community of Sun n Lake, where they spent their winters golfing and playing cards with new and old dear friends. Linda was well-loved by all who knew her, but her greatest legacy will surely be her children and 13 precious grandchildren whom she adored.  She was, above all else, a wonderful wife to Jerry, amazing mother and remarkable grandmother. She will be greatly missed by so many, but showed us all a great example how to live a life of humility and tenderness and how to think of others before ourselves. Philippians 2:3: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility, consider others better than yourself” Scripture that well represents who Linda was. Services for Linda will be held at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, Florida on February 22nd at 3 o’clock and at the Big Island Baptist Church in Big Island, VA on February 29th at 11 o’clock by Rev. Mike Watkins and Rev. Bryon LePere. There will be a visitation at the Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, VA on Sunday, February 28th from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Centra Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center’s Cancer Patient Support Fund, c/o the Centra Foundation at 1920 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
