Lewis A. Pentz, 97, passed away on April 13, 2016 in Sebring, Florida where he had lived for the past 37 years. Lewis was born in Ovid, NY on January 8, 1919 to Abram and Pearl Vieley Pentz. He was a sergeant in the 43rd Infantry Division of the Army, serving from 1941-1945 with action in the South Pacific and earning his Bronze Star and Purple Heart near Luzon. Lewis married Elsie Hooper on December 17, 1941. He worked as a debit agent throughout Seneca County for Prudential Insurance Company for 30 years, moving to Florida after his retirement in 1979. Following the death of Elsie, Lewis married Helen Hotelling on May 15, 1985, who survives him. He was a President of the Parent/Teacher’s Association at Romulus Central School, a President of the Highlands County Genealogy Society in Florida, a member of the Waterloo United Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Avon Park; he served as a Treasurer for both churches. He enjoyed genealogy, stock car and sports car racing.
Lewis is also survived by his daughters, Joanne (Ted) Mitchell of Seneca Falls, NY, Katherine (Lewis) Sheradin of Dundee, NY, and Helen (James) Van Arsdale of Seneca Falls, NY, his step-children, Marie (Stuart) Church of Ionia, MI, Dale (Beth) Hotelling of Grand Rapids, MI, and Neal (Bettina) Hotelling of Sebring, FL, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece Susan (Steve) Frost of Trumansburg, NY and nephew Frank (Aaron) Pentz of Burdett, several grand nephews and nieces and cousins. Lewis was predeceased by his first wife, Elsie Pentz, his brother George Pentz, and his sister-in-law Majel Pentz. The family will gather for a grave-side service in Waterloo, NY at a date to be announced where he will be buried beside his first wife, Elsie Pentz. A Celebration of Life will be held in Avon Park, FL at a later date.
