Dr. Lee Burley, age 91, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 in Sebring, Florida. He was born on July 5, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Robert E. Lee and Helen Virginia (Tomlinson) Burley. They moved to Moundsville, West Virginia soon after. He lived in Wheeling, W.V. where he graduated from Wheeling High School, then went to West Liberty College for about two years and enlisted in the Army and was in the ASTP where he was sent to Philadelphia to college. After the war, he was able to get into the University of Louisville Medical School where he met Shirley Henriott who was in nurses training. They were married on June 24, 1947 in Wheeling W.V. He practiced medicine in Sistersville, W.V. before entering the Air Force for two years. He passed the medical exams in Louisville, KY, Wheeling, W.V. and Florida. He then opened his office after spending a year in Stanley Wallace's Medical office. He came to Sebring in 1953 where he opened his practice behind the City Drug Store until he moved his office to The Fountainhead. He retired at the age of 62. He loved to golf and was an avid bridge player-the last of the foursome who played every Thursday night for years. He enjoyed traveling and stained glass work. Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Burley-Sebring, FL; three sons: Steven Lee (Kathy) Burley-Deland, FL; Lee Burley, Jr.-Sebring, FL; Donald Earl Burley-Sebring, FL, three grandchildren: Brooke McDermott (Andrew); Blair Lange (Zechariah); Johnathan Burley and one great-great grandson: Liam McDermott. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son: Bruce Edward Burley, who passed away seven years ago. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 19, 2015, from 5pm - 6pm, at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring with a funeral service on Saturday, June 20, 2015 beginning at 1pm at the funeral home with Pastor Ted Moore officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Avon Park, FL. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
