Leah Colleen Proctor, 97, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, in Avon Park, Florida. She was born in Los Angeles, California on October 5, 1927, to August and Leah R (Tobin) Eckman. Her father was career U.S. Navy, and she grew up in many coastal states but mostly Washington, Oregon, Texas and California.

She met her future husband, Richard J. Proctor while they were attending high school in San Leandro, California. They were married on November 23, 1946, while she was working at Montgomery Ward, and he was in the U.S. Army.

Following his separation from the service, he was employed in the communications and computer fields which required many relocations, and she elected to stay out of the workforce to create a home. They relocated several times, including to Kentucky and Illinois before eventually settling in Florida in 1990.

During her life she enjoyed bowling, cards, square dancing, bingo and traveling. She traveled extensively throughout the continental United States plus several trips through Mexico and Hawaii.

Survivors include her husband of 78 years, sons; Matthew Joel Proctor (Allene) – Avon Park, FL, Michael Jay Proctor – Louisville, KY, daughter; Linda C. Harrod – St. Augustine, FL, sister; Luana A. Combs (William) – Beaverton, OR, 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

Interment will take place in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetic Society or the charity of your choice in her name.
