Lawler Martin Wells, age 86, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Avon Park, Florida. He was born on April 1, 1938, in Avon Park, Florida to his loving parents Edgar Ray and Jane H. (Huebner) Wells. Lawler was businessman that included many ventures, served in the United States Army Reserves, and has been a lifelong resident of Avon Park, Florida.
Lawler is survived by his loving Wife - Betty Wells of Avon Park, FL; Children – Vonda L. Wells of Wilmington, DE; Sherri Whidden (Jerry) of Avon Park, FL; Troy Wells of Avon Park, FL; Brothers – Kenneth Wells of Avon Park, FL; Stanley Wells (Terri) of Avon Park, FL; Brother-in-law – Herbert A. Baughan (Betsy) of Rockledge, FL; 6 Grandchildren; and 5 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Parents; Grandson – Caleb Wells; Daughter-in-law – Jenny Wells; and Sister-in-law – Peggy Wells.
He graduated from Avon Park High School in 1956. After graduation he attended a semester at Stetson University and then joined the Army reserves. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Avon Park where he served as a Deacon, Royal Ambassador Leader, Sunday School teacher and Men’s Bible Study teacher. He is currently a member of Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church. He started work at Wells Motor Company and then started his own business called Big T Tire Center which he owned for many years. Then he started another business raising alligators called Hilltop Farms which became the largest alligator farm in the state of Florida. After the closing of the alligator farm, he worked at Orange Co and Gatorland Attraction Park for a time. He then started Wells Sod and Sprinkler and continued with this business until retirement.
Lawler was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and observe nature. He also loved playing and observing sports. He was a true man of God who diligently studied his Bible daily and would share Christ with all he encountered. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a great family man always involved in his children and grandchildren’s lives. He had a great sense of humor was a good listener and friend.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 AM at the Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Bougainvillea Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Fund at Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church.
