Larry Ray Caton, age 77, of Sebring, Florida, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025. He was born March 2, 1948 in Normal, Illinois to Raymond Everett Caton and Fern Marie Mercier Caton of Normal, Illinois.

Larry earned his bachelor degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and his master’s degree from Illinois State University before enlisting in the Army in September 1970 earning the rank of Lieutenant specializing in weapons. During his military service, Larry had the opportunity to train and compete in handball. He earned a spot to compete on the US Handball Team in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany.

Larry began his teaching career in Bellflower, Illinois as a guidance counselor before moving to Sebring, Florida where he spent 27 years with the SBHC serving as a math teacher and guidance counselor.

Larry met his beautiful wife, Patricia, during duty-free lunch at Bellflower Elementary/High School in 1980. In August of 1983, Larry and Pat married in a garden wedding by a pond on Hield Road in Melbourne, Florida. They renewed their vows in July of 1985 in Pat’s hometown of Sainte Marie, Illinois.

Larry is survived by his wife, Patricia, two sons, Tyler (Jazmin) of Benbrook, Texas and Spencer (Allison) of Middleburg, Florida, and three grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his family, Larry enjoyed driving his corvette, playing golf, cooking and grilling. He had a passion for watching sports and doing daily crossword puzzles. A Celebration of Life was held for family and friends on Saturday, November 8, 2025 in their family home. Larry had a special place in his heart for children.
