Kevin Dale Coatney, born on June 8, 1979, in the tranquil town of Avon Park, Florida, passed away on April 6, 2026, in Sebring, Florida.
For many years, Kevin dedicated his labor to the fields of Highlands County, working as a tireless laborer in agriculture. His hands cultivated the land, embodying a commitment that sustained both soil and community. Yet beyond the rigorous demands of his vocation, Kevin’s soul found solace and joy in diverse pursuits that endeared him to friends and family alike.
An avid gamer, Kevin immersed himself in virtual worlds with the same fervor that he carried into every aspect of life. His affection for bearded dragons revealed a tender heart attuned to the quiet companionship of these unique creatures. A passionate sports enthusiast, basketball held a special place in his heart—not only as a spectator but as an eager player, embracing the camaraderie and challenge of the game. Music was a faithful companion throughout his life, and the profound rhythms and messages of Tupac Shakur resonated deeply with him, underscoring his appreciation for artistry and expression.
Kevin’s essence was shaped also by the bonds of family and friendship, where his love and kindness flourished. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Coatney, whose steadfast partnership gave mutual strength and joy. Together, they raised two sons, Gauge and Kobe Coatney, who carried forward their father's legacy with pride and affection. Kevin was the cherished son of Deana and Mitchell Strickland, Sr., as well as Joey and Laura Coatney, and Terry and Jesse Flint, who nurtured and supported him throughout his life.
His siblings remain integral bearers of his memory: brothers Dylan Strickland, Bradley Strickland, and Shane Coatney, along with his sister, Dallas Dermid. The mantle of family heritage is carried on by his grandmother, Nikki Smith, and the next generation, including nieces and nephews Damian Coatney, Samantha Coatney, Elijah Strickland, Natalie Strickland, among many other family members and friends who were touched by his warmth and spirit.
Kevin’s life was also marked by the sorrowful absence of his grandparents, Dale Smith and Glenda Coatney, and his brothers Sam Coatney and Mitchell Strickland, Jr., whose memories live on in the stories and hearts of those who knew them.
As we reflect on Kevin Dale Coatney’s passage through this life, we remember a man whose toil in the fields was matched only by his devotion to family, his zest for life’s simple and profound pleasures, and the indelible marks he leaves on the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. His life was a testament to enduring love, passion, and resilience—qualities that will long inspire those who mourn his loss and celebrate his memory.
