KATHRYN BROOKS SMITH Kathryn Brooks Smith, age 79, of Sebring, Florida, went to be with The Lord on November 10, 2009, after a short battle with cancer. She was born March 12, 1930 in Georgiana, Alabama to Ab and Clyde Brooks, graduated from McKenzie High School and then Troy State Teachers College in 1950, both in Alabama. Kathryn taught school for 30 years at both Sebring Middle School and Woodlawn Elementary and was part of the original faculty when Woodlawn opened in 1955. She loved teaching and the camaraderie of her fellow teachers. Her creativity was celebrated in many assorted ways through her love of music, ceramics, flowers, and her desire to teach others to share in her enthusiasm for creative expression. Her sewing, gardening, and culinary skills were some of her best loved accomplishments. As a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Sebring for 55 years, choir member, and active church worker, she will be missed by many people. Kathryn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. James Ferrell Smith; daughters, Beth and Ed McKinney, Kay Sanders, and Amy and Pete Morgan; son Al and Bethanne Smith; Grandchildren, Sarah Beth Hopton, Amanda Harris, Adam Sanders, Katie Thomas, Alex Sanders, Aaron Smith, Shauna Cheek, Ashley Smith, Tara Smith, Andrew Morgan, Jake Morgan and Zack Morgan and Great-Granddaughter, Gracie Smith. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Sebring, Rev. Winfred White, Rev. David Thomas, Rev. David Richardson and Rev. Jay McCall officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Donations may be made in Kathryns memory to your favorite charity.
