Kathryn “Kathy” Ann Stevenson, 83, passed away peacefully on November 12 th , 2022, at HCA Florida Highlands Hospital in Sebring Florida. Kathy was born May 5 th , 1939, in Norfolk Virginia. She was the youngest of three daughters of William Joseph Scott and Susie Janette Garrett, following Susie Janette Ketner and Beatrice Sherrill. Kathy graduated from North Miami High School in 1957 and in 1961, she married Milton Russell Miller of Detroit Michigan. They had three children, Scott Douglas Miller, Pamela Suzanne Miller-Laugen and Jeffrey Boyd Miller. On July 4 th , 1988, she remarried to her “Sailor” James Aaron “Jeff” Stevenson, and added to her family two stepdaughters, Sheri Ramsell and Dina Bohacek.
Throughout her life, Kathy was always an active mother and career accountant. While raising her children in and around Detroit she also worked at Henry Ford hospital, drove a school bus and ran a youth bowling league. Kathy also had a long love for dogs and was involved with breeding and showing Scottish Terriers at AKC events in Michigan and California. Kathy also enjoyed taking the family road trips from Detroit to Miami to visit her parents and was an active member of the Nazarene church. She also had a deep interest in genealogy and continued to follow that passion all her life. Kathy was always quick of wit and slow to anger and possessed a caring heart towards all those she crossed paths with her entire life.
After moving to California in 1978 her determination and strong work ethic continuously earned the respect and admiration of others everywhere that she was employed. Her natural aptitude for working with numbers earned her Associates degree in accounting from Solano Community College in Fairfield Ca. Kathy applied those skills while working for several companies during her time in California. Ingersoll Rand, Hardister Industrial Security and San Luis & Delta Mendota Water Authority were beneficiaries of her skills as well as her sunny disposition. In 2007, after departing the Water Authority and retiring from caretaking of the Featherstone Duck Hunting Club in Gustine California, Kathy and Jeff moved to Twin Falls Idaho. While there she worked for Westerra Reality and became a Tax Pro and Master Tax Advisor with H&R Block. While in Twin Falls, she and Jeff traveled often and, almost yearly, they would go to one of their favorite destinations, Yellowstone National Park. After Jeff passed away in December of 2013, Kathy continued her time in Idaho with work and engaged herself with the local chapter of The National Society of The Daughters of The American Revolution (DARS). Kathy relocated to Sebring Florida in June 2019 to be closer to her oldest grandson and his family and would continue her work with H&R Block and proudly achieved her IRS certification.
Kathy is survived by her older sister, Beatrice Sherrill, her children Scott (Laura), Pam and Jeff (Lori) and her stepdaughters Sheri and Dina. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Not to be forgotten is the love Kathryn had for her whole extended family, from nieces to friends that were like family, wherever they may be. As per her wishes, Kathy’s remains will be interred with her Love, her Friend, Her Sailor, “Big” Jeff, at the Sacramento National Cemetery on Tuesday, May16th, at 1pm.
Kathy’s family would like to give a special thank you to her good friend, neighbor and co-worker, Gale Cohen Stanley, for her strong friendship and for being at Kathy’s side during her final time. Gale’s compassion and help during and after Kathy’s unexpected passing has been without measure.
