Kathleen (Kay) Gay Powell (née Bailey), age 90, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in Sebring, Florida.
Born on December 15, 1935, in Milford, Ohio, Kay was the beloved daughter of Herb and Geraldine Bailey. She grew up in the close-knit community of Mulberry, where she enjoyed an idyllic childhood filled with laughter and adventure alongside her best friend Joanne and her devoted brother Ival. These early years shaped a life grounded in kindness, joy, and unwavering faith.
A graduate of Milford High School’s Class of 1953, Kay began her professional journey as a key-punch operator at Strietmann Biscuit Company. Once her children were older, she found a new calling as a school bus driver for Milford Exempted Village Schools—a role she embraced for 27 years. Her commitment to the safety and well-being of countless students left a lasting impression on generations within the community.
Faith was the cornerstone of Kay’s life. A lifelong member of The Mulberry Wesleyan Church until relocating to Florida later in life, she lived each day guided by compassion and grace. Her gentle spirit and ability to see the good in everyone touched all who knew her.
Kay was a devoted wife to Paul W. Powell. They were married for 71 years. She was a loving mother to their four sons and their spouses: Kerry Powell, Kent Powell (Tom Hall), Todd Powell (Beth) and Scott Powell (Becca). She took immense joy in raising her boys and remained deeply involved in their lives. Her love extended warmly to her seven grandchildren—Krista Nunez, Mindy Elder, Nathan Powell, Kalyn Powell, Brittany Powell, Brittney Lockard, and Jacob Munz—and 13 great-grandchildren. She had an extraordinary memory for birthdays—not only of family members but also their pets—and delighted in celebrating each one with heartfelt enthusiasm.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Sandra Powell. Her brother Ival Bailey and his wife Marlene survive her and share in the many cherished memories they created together throughout their lives.
Kay will be remembered as a dear friend whose kindness never wavered. Her legacy is one of warmth, generosity, and enduring love—a life beautifully lived.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
