Karen L. Nutter (nee Peterson) age 68 of Sebring, Florida, passed away on September 4th, 2025, with her family at her hospital bedside.
Born March 7th, 1957, in the Bronx, New York to Lila and the late Martin Peterson and raised in Astoria Queens, then moved to Carol City, Florida, “much fun, love and growing within our clan.” She graduated from Miami Carol City Senior High School in 1975. Karen was guided to the medical field and later joined the US Army in 1979 until 1986 and became a vocational nurse.
Karen enjoyed “Sting, Seattle Seahawks football and NASCAR” as well as her dedication to volunteering. “With unity great things occur. All the people I have met along my travels began as strangers – are no longer strangers. All will live in my heart forever.”
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Doug Nutter, daughters Jessica Vargas of Providence, Rhode Island and Marissa Nutter of Winter Haven, Florida, mother Lila Mitchell (Dennis) of Lake Placid, Florida, Deborah Davis (Rick) of Palm Coast Florida and Roxanne Martinez of Tamarac, Florida, in-laws, grandson, great granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, cousins and their children and spouses.
Karen was preceded in death by her father Martin, brother Ricky Peterson and sister Kristine Carmen Embry.
“I am now on an assignment, back as a cat. Please adopt me. My heartfelt love and respect belong to all those I have encountered.”
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11:00am at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00am.
