Joyce Edith Houska

Joyce Edith (Newson) Houska died at The Palms of Sebring on September 9, 2021 at 5:45 pm. She would have been 99 years old on September 13, 2021. She loved living at the Palms and playing all their games. She lived there for more than 5 years!

She was originally from Prince Edward Island (PEI) Canada. She grew up on a 50 acre dairy farm. She taught school after graduating college for 2 years then moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1946 where she met her husband Norbert Allen Houska (deceased 2008) while working as a Hostess at The Union Oyster House! They married July 31,1948. They raised 4 kids (Kathy, Brad, Donna & Sherri) . They lived in Fairfax, VA before retiring to Sebring, Florida in 1979 after Norb retired from the FAA after 33 years.

Joyce was a Master Gardener; volunteered at the Ag Center for 21 years! She also enjoyed tennis and golf, and she loved to travel. She was also a Member of St. Johns United Methodist Church for many years here in Sebring.

Interment into the mausoleum at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Avon Park, Florida on September 27, 2021 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Ron Degenerao officiating the eulogy.
