On Sunday, October 9th, 2022, Joyce Marie (Goudeau) DeWitt passed away in Avon Park, FL. She was surrounded by her family who will remember her as a loving wife, devoted Mom, and fun Momma Jo. Affectionally called, “Our Ragin Cajun”, Joyce was born on July 6th, 1937 in Wisner, LA. She grew up in Pineville, LA where she quickly earned the reputation as a talented softball and basketball player. It was there at the ballfields where she met the love of her life - Lewis.
Joyce and Lewis were married on November 16th, 1955. After living in several states, they made their home in Avon Park, FL in 1968 where they raised their 5 children. Joyce had both a big heart and a big personality to match! She was a caring and skilled nurse for over 25 years (Walker Memorial Hospital and Advent Health Sebring) primarily working the night shifts. She also passed on her softball skills as a coach in the community where you could always count on her to be supporting the kids!
Joyce was preceded in death by her loving Mother – Victoria Goudeau Normand; Brothers – Fred and Marvin “Blackie”; and Sister – Lee Bartucci.
Her fierce devotion to family and loving heart lives on in the life of her family. She is survived by her Husband of 67 years and their 5 Children – Buddy, Vickie Liddle (Rod), Cindy Murphy (Kevin), Stephanie Taylor (Toby), and Jasone (Jennifer). Joyce’s legacy also lives on through her 14 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren who will cherish the beautiful memories and life-giving lessons they learned from her.
