Joshua Daniel Smith

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son, Joshua Daniel Smith, on May 31, 2026, at the age of 27. While our hearts ache from this tremendous loss, we find comfort in knowing he is now in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior.

Joshua was a beloved son, grandson, family member, and friend whose presence brought light, laughter, and warmth to everyone who knew him. He had a generous heart and a genuine spirit that drew people to him. Joshua was a friend to many and a joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joshua's infectious smile and laughter could brighten any room, and he had a special gift for making jokes and bringing smiles to the faces of those around him. His willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Joshua was always willing to help others, never hesitating when someone was in need. His kindness, compassion, and selfless nature were among the many qualities that made him so deeply loved. The memories of his laughter, his caring heart, and the way he made people feel valued will be cherished forever.

Joshua is survived by his loving mother, Sharon Leigh Sockalosky; his father, Toby Jon Smith; and sister Brooke Marie Smith; his stepfather, Shannon Lee Treadway; and his paternal grandparents, Jeff and Marilou Smith. He also leaves behind many extended family members and countless friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Edward and Sharon Sockalosky, and his paternal great-grandparents, John and Evelyn Swails.

While Joshua's passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, his family finds comfort in their faith and in the belief that he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. They take solace in imagining Joshua doing what he loved—helping others, sharing stories, making people laugh, and casting a fishing line alongside those waiting to welcome him home.

Though his time on earth was far too short, Joshua's legacy of kindness, friendship, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for how he lived, but for how he made others feel—accepted, cared for, and loved.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, support, and kindness they have received during this difficult time.

Service Arrangements

A Celebration of Life honoring Joshua Daniel Smith will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 4531 US Highway 17, Bowling Green, Florida 33834.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Joshua's life and the many memories he shared with those who loved him. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with the Celebration of Life service immediately following at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hardee Animal Rescue Team (HART), P.O. Box 2486, Wauchula, FL 33873. HART held a special place in Joshua's heart, as he volunteered with the organization and helped rescue and care for animals in need. Because of his work with HART, Joshua rescued his beloved cat, Bean, who became a cherished companion and brought him much joy.

Supporting HART in Joshua's memory is a meaningful way to honor his compassionate spirit, his love for animals, and his willingness to help those who could not help themselves. Donations made in his memory will continue the work that Joshua cared so deeply about and help provide hope and second chances for animals in need.
