Joseph E. Miller, 86, of Sebring, Florida, and formerly of Jasonville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012, in Sebring. He was born on February 2, 1926, in Jasonville, and he and his wife Mary retired to the Sebring area in 1991. He loved to fish and play euchre and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and Lawton Street Christian Church. Joe was a combat wounded veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was awarded the Purple Heart. In the early years after the war, he was a farmer and railroad man. He was an over the road truck driver for 37 years, retiring from trucking in 1983. Later, he was a school bus driver for the Shakamak School District. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary, of Sebring; brother, Dale (Bonnie) of Spokane, WA; sons, Nick (Gail) of St. Petersburg, FL; Kenny (Vicki) of Rockville, IN and David Smith of Southampton, UK; step-daughters, Connie Lee (Mike) of Olive Hill, TN; Carlyn Ray (Johnny) of Benton, KY; step-son, Charles Wilson, Jr. (Nikki), of Jasonville, IN, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Lloyd and Miriam Miller and two brothers, James R. and Donald A., all of Jasonville, IN. A Graveside Memorial Service will be conducted at the Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN on December 15, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Highlands County Compassionate Care Hospice, 4139 Sun N Lake Blvd., Sebring, FL 33872 or Sunny Hills ALF Alzheimer's Unit, 3600 Commerce Center Dr., Sebring, FL 33870.
