Joseph Derenzis

JOSEPH DERENZIS Joseph Derenzis, 80, passed away at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Sebring, Florida, surrounded by his family, on August 1, 2011. Joe was born in White Plains, New York on July 8, 1931, to the late Frank and Laura DeRenzis. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1955, after which he worked as a licensed electrician for 37 years for Local No. 3 in New York. In 1959, Joe married the love of his life, Catherine Kay Sullivan, of Nova Scotia, Canada, and spent many summers vacationing there with his family. He loved playing the piano, reading and spending time with his grandchildren, who he was so proud of and also enjoyed golfing and going to the beach. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Sebring and a member of Elks Lodge No. 1529 in Sebring. He is survived by his wife, Kay; son Joseph, Jr. (Vicki) and grandchildren, Amanda and Thomas, all of Sebring; sister, Frances (Charles) Russo, White Plains, New York; nieces Theresa and Donna and many relatives in Canada. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring. A Funeral Mass will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Sebring, with the Very Reverend Jose Gonzalez officiating. Family flowers only.
