Josefina Castro Garay

Josefina Castro Garay, a beautiful fighter, passed away in her home in Avon Park, FL surrounded by family on January 25, 2022. She was born on October 22, 1951 in San Benito, TX to Jose F. Castro and Manuela Lira Castro, also deceased.

Her parents immigrated from Mexico, and she was one of a family of 14 which gave her the drive to become better for her family. She fought her way through school with limited resources and managed to succeed in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Arts from Florida Atlantic University. A heartwarming soul, she wanted to help people. She worked as a Social Worker for 20 years and a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for 15 years. A dedicated worker, she had a heart of gold for her clients.

She always knew how to live life to the fullest by having a positive outlook and never giving up on challenges. She was a social butterfly who loved dancing and singing, a believer in God and faith. She was a great friend to many and was easy to talk to about anything. She had an exquisite taste in food that many people would agree with. Her hobbies included gardening and she would spend hours with her plants. She was one-of-a-kind and irreplaceable. She definitely left a positive mark on the world she left behind.

She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Tito Garay, of Avon Park, FL; Daughters – Selina M. Garay (Armando Concepcion); Vanessa S. Garay, both of Avon Park, FL; and Renee E. Thomas (Richard) of Lake Worth, FL. She also had 6 Grandchildren: Mariah, Bryce, Joseph, Alexander, Adam, and Brittney.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11:00 am at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 am.
