Jon David Markley, 86, passed away on March 11, 2025, in Sebring, FL. He was born on September 8, 1938, in German, PA, to the late Marian E. Markley.
Jon honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy, retiring after a dedicated career. In 2005, he made Sebring, FL, his home, where he became an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4300, the largest VFW post in Florida.
Jon is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Markley; his children, Jon D. Markley Jr. (Ronnie) of Sebring, FL, Shari A. McGregor (Timothy) of Morgantown, WV, and Teri L. Smith (Richard) of Sugar Hill, GA. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren—Kristen Kerr (Shawn), Jacqueline Smock (Simon), Chad McGregor (Amy), Ryan McGregor (Shannon), and Shawn McGregor (Derec)—as well as a loving great-grandfather to eleven great-grandchildren.
Jon had a love for woodworking, fishing, and spending time at the local casino. He was a passionate sports fan, always cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Jon will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved
A private interment will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery at a later date.
