Johny O. Portis

Johny O. Portis, age 79, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Sebring, FL. He was born on September 1, 1936 in New Castle, VA to the late John and Eva (Fisher) Portis. Johny had been a resident of Avon Park since 1972 having come from Japan. He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam and retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1976. He later worked as a Corrections Officer at APCI and as a Security Guard at Florida Hospital. He attended Florida Avenue Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife: Miyoko Portis of Avon Park; sons: Terry (Patricia) Portis of Sebring; Alan (Candice) Portis of Fort Myers; brother: Dr. Louis (Lorita) Portis of N.C.; sister: Shirley (Ray) Hutchinson of N.C.; and four grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Florida Avenue Baptist Church in Avon Park.
