Johnny F. Varnes

JOHNNY FRANKLIN VARNES Johnny Franklin Varnes , age 60, was born November 20, 1950 in Avon Park, FL and died October 31, 2011. He was the son of James and Alma Varnes, deceased, also of Avon Park, Brother Nelson & Elaine Varnes of (Mississippi), Sister Dorothy & Randy Sphaler of (Avon Park), sister Linda & Ray Martz of (Sebring). He graduated in 1968, was drafted and served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam 1968-1971, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He married Carlene C. Waldron on December 5, 1981 and they have, three children: Daylan Shelton & (Mike Chason) of Hardee, Brittney Bennett & (J R Young) of Hardee, Joshua Tater Varnes & (Melissa Olson) of Highlands. He was a devoted husband, father and Papa to six grandsons, three granddaughters and two great granddaughters. He was a Ranch Manager and day worker cowboy until he retired in 2009. He loved working cows, breaking colts, roping and riding, hog hunting and fishing. His final resting place will be The United Methodist Church of Venus cemetery. When they lay me down to rest, put my spurs and rope upon my chest, get my friends to carry me and then turn my horses free. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011, at Venus United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jess Page officiating. Interment will be immediately following the service.
