John Martin Schumacher

John Martin Schumacher, age 96, of Sebring, FL passed away peacefully onTuesday, April 16, 2024 and is now reunited with his wife, Gisela.  John was born March 25, 1928, in Fullerton, Nebraska to Martin and Leona Schumacher.  He is a veteran of the Army and Air Force where he served in both WWII and Korea and was honorably discharged. He moved to New York to work in the Airline Industry. He later transferred to Miami, FL where he was an Operations Manager with Braniff Airline and raised his three children. John eventually retired to Sebring, FL where he gave of his time through volunteering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, Rebuilding Together and Highlands Hammock State Park system.  John was proud of his German descent and was a member throughout the years with the German American Clubs in both Miami and Sebring areas. He was a devoted Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  His hobbies included maintaining nesting gourds during Martin bird season, going to the gun range, and meeting with various groups and friends to stay connected.  John was known for his light-hearted sense of humor and his devotion to his family and friends. A wonderful, loving and giving man; he will be dearly missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him.  He is preceded in death by his wife Gisela, his parents, his sister Marion McGill, and brother Leonard Schumacher.  He is survived by his sister Janet Lincoln of Wahoo, NE, and his three children Martin Schumacher (Floral City, FL) and his wife Melodie, Margot Foligno (Sebring, FL) and her husband John, and Marcus Schumacher (Chuluota, FL) and his wife Denise. John has eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Jessica, Jeremy, Carson, Kaitlynn, Brittany, Brooke, and Thomas. He has two stepdaughters, Christine Gregory, and Cindy Bevis.  John will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL alongside his wife Gisela. A Military Ceremony is planned for the immediate family.  Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 2024 at 5:00 PM at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, FL.  Flowers for the Sebring service can be ordered through Hobby Hill, 541 N Ridgewood Drive, Sebring, FL 33870. 863- 385-8049.  In lieu of flowers, a donation in John's honor can be made to Florida National Cemetery. Checks can be made out to Florida National Cemetery Gift Fund and mailed to 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513-8914.
