John Daniel Rieck

JOHN D. RIECK John D. Rieck, 84, of Sebring, Florida, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011. He was born on July 7, 1927, in Preston, Maryland, son of Harry H. and Eleanor Wittmer Rieck. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, class of 1949, with a major in Agricultural Economics. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Preston, MD and a choir member for 40 years. He was also a member of the Caroline Country Club of Denton, MD. He enlisted in the Army in 1951 and served two years, being assigned to the Counter Intelligence Corps, where he conducted background investigations of persons holding mid-top level security positions in the Army. On June 27, 1953 he married Adrienne Travers Sewell of Easton, MD. Following discharge from the Army, he managed a full service farm supply business, Southern States Cooperative, for 18 years. The business was sold in 1969, after which he was employed by the Environmental Health Division of the Maryland State Health Department for 13 years, where he served as Director for Caroline County for 10 of those years. He retired in 1983 and along with his wife, Adrienne, moved to Sebring in 1995. He was a member of Golf Hammock Country Club in Sebring. He is survived by his son, Brad Rieck, Lafayette, LA; daughter, Amy Jo Jackson, Easton, MD; Grandson, Richard Jackson, Easton, MD; brothers, Harry H. Rieck, Jr., of Preston, MD and Victor H. Rieck, Federalsburg, MD; sisters, Eleanor Kardash, Rehoboth, DE and Esther Smith, Sebring. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adrienne, in 2010.
