John Dillon Monroe

October 13, 1926 — January 7, 2017

John "Jack" Monroe, 90, of Sebring, FL, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully early January 7th, 2017.  Jack is survived by his loving and devoted family, including his wife of 60 years, Emily Ehrman Monroe, children John Brook (Frances) Monroe of DeLand, FL, and Jenifer (James) Mohney of Las Vegas, NV, and grandson Bradley Donald Monroe of DeLand, FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Curtis Monroe and Helen Dillon Monroe, and his brother, Gilbert Samuel Monroe II. Also, preceded in death by John Paul O'Neil and James E. Breece, Jr., close long-time friends.

Jack was born October 13th, 1926 in Portsmouth, Ohio. He attended Portsmouth High School and Ohio State University. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from August 1944 to October 1946. Prior to moving to Florida in 1974, he was president of Williams Manufacturing Company and Escalade Incorporated, makers of women's and children's footwear. Jack also served as Vice President of the Ohio Manufacturing Association, and as a Director of the National Bank in Portsmouth.  He was a Director of Coastal Caribbean Oil and Minerals, Ltd., for 21 years.

After moving to Florida he opened a real estate office, Monroe-Buman Real Estate, in Naples, FL, operating in the residential and business markets, as well as property management. Later he was associated with the Lutgert Companies in Naples as Vice President of Marketing and Sales for the Linville Ridge, N. C. development. Jack moved to Sebring, FL in 1994, where he continued to practice Real Estate as a Broker/Associate with Country Club Real Estate until his retirement in 2009.

A service of committal will be scheduled for a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the All Saints Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 4th and Court Streets, Portsmouth OH, 45662, or to the Veterans' support organization of individual choice.
