John V. "Candy" Rowell

John V. (Candy) Rowell was born in Lake Placid, Florida in 1927 to Henry and Ella Rowell. He moved to Sarasota, Florida at a young age and lived there for many years. John met and married the love of his life, Margaret in 1949 and in 2015 they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.  John was a WWII Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later became a commercial pilot and flew for the Sarasota County Mosquito Control for 8 ½ years. John was a talented musician and had a passion for Country and Gospel music. For many years John had a Country Music band that appeared on their own radio show that played on local radio stations in the Sarasota area. The band made several LP records and played many engagements throughout the State of Florida. John wrote much of his own music and once appeared on the Louisiana Hay Ride.  John was a dedicated employee of Florida Power and Light, working in power plants in Sarasota, Cocoa and Ft. Myers, Florida. John retired after 39 years of service as Plant Superintendent in 1987. John enjoyed many of his early retirement years in Lorida, Florida living and fishing on Lake Istokpoga and in later years, moving to Sebring, Florida. John loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sebring. John is survived by his wife, Margaret Rowell; his children, Charles Rowell and Sandra Lance; son-in-law, Ken Lance; sister, Ann Watson; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Ella Rowell; son, John T. Rowell; granddaughter, Danielle Rowell and his six brothers and three sisters.
