Joan Diane Yoder of Avon Park passed away Sunday afternoon, March 4, 2018 at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Sebring, FL. She was born in Findlay, OH on November 13, 1930 to Charles and Florence Ritter. Joan graduated from both Findlay High School and Findlay College at the head of her class. She married William Yoder on June 1, 1951 and moved to Bill’s home town, Mount Carmel, PA. Bill joined the Navy in the fall of 1951 and they moved to the Norfolk, VA area and lived there until Bill’s separation from the Navy in 1955. The family moved back to Mount Carmel and lived there until permanently moving to Avon Park in November, 2005. after “snow-birding” for 18 years. While in Mount Carmel, Joan was active in her church, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She spent many years as a volunteer at the Mount Carmel Public Library and served on the Library’s Board of Trustees. In Avon Park, she began attending the Union Congregational Church and was actively involved in the “Happy Crafters” and Women’s Fellowship. Joan was pre-deceased by her parents; siblings Max, Maynard, Richard and Shirley, and son Richard who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, William; children, David of Womelsdorf, PA, Jeffrey (Leah) of East Haven, CT, and Nairobi, Kenya, Africa;
and Susan of West Haven, CT; Grandchildren Kayla and Jacob; and great grandson, Cyrus.
A celebration of life service will be held later at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Happy Crafters, Union Congregational Church, N. Butler Ave., Avon Park or the Mount Carmel Public Library, S. Oak St. Mount Carmel, PA 17851
