Jerry Lorenzo Smith, born October 12, 1947, in Eufaula, Alabama, to the late Huey and Mary Smith, passed away on November 9, 2024, in Sebring, Florida. A beloved member of the Highlands County community since 1962, Jerry was a devoted business owner, the proud founder of a lawncare business, and a cherished neighbor to many.

Jerry served his country with honor as a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War, exemplifying courage and commitment that would remain with him throughout his life. His sense of service extended beyond his time in uniform; he was a steadfast member of the Ridge Area Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he embraced roles of leadership and hospitality. As head deacon, Jerry devoted countless hours to the church community he held dear, often lending his culinary skills to prepare vegetarian meals with a creative flair for gatherings. His church family remembers him fondly as a faithful, supportive presence who brought warmth to worship and fellowship alike.

A passionate sports fan, Jerry rarely missed an opportunity to watch football or catch up on any game. He was also known for his love of family gatherings, finding joy in the company of loved ones. Jerry had a fiercely competitive spirit and approached all he did with determination and talent, qualities that enriched the lives of those around him.

Jerry’s life was further brightened by the companionship of his Chihuahua, PJ, who brought him daily joy and comfort. He is survived by his brothers, Henry Lee Scott (Angela) of Jonesboro, GA, and Huey Lee Smith(Mable) of Tampa, FL; his stepdaughters, Marlene Morales (Edgar) of Gainesville, FL and Sherri Smith of Sebring, FL; and by his former wife, Mattie Smith, of Avon Park. He was preceded in death by his brother, Willard C. Smith.

Jerry’s legacy of faith, dedication, and kindness will be cherished by his family, friends, and the community he served so faithfully. He will be remembered for his optimistic spirit and his signature phrase: “Blessed and highly favored!”
