Gerald “Jerry” Robert Myers passed away on October 25, 2024, in Sebring, FL, at the age of 91. Jerry was born on April 3, 1933, in Atchison, KS, to the late Charles and Mary Myers. Growing up in Bendena, KS, as the youngest of five children, Jerry’s early years were marked by a love for sports and a deep dedication to family and faith.
A gifted athlete, Jerry attended Christian Brothers High School in St. Joseph, MO, and went on to St. Benedict’s College (now Benedictine College) in Atchison, KS, where he shined as a football and basketball player. His athletic talents led him to receive four football scholarship offers, though he chose St. Benedict’s as his path to excellence on and off the field. Jerry’s love for sports extended well beyond college; he was an avid golfer with an impressive five holes-in-one and a dedicated member of both the Chester Valley Golf Club in Malvern, PA, where he served as president, and the Sun ’N Lake Golf Club in Sebring, FL. A spirited competitor, he was also a mixed doubles tennis champion, and he found great joy in both friendly and competitive games with his loved ones and friends.
Jerry served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, exemplifying dedication and loyalty—qualities that would continue to define him throughout his life. He worked as Director of Sales & Marketing with GlxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical in the Animal Health Division. After moving to Sebring, FL, from Malvern, PA, in 2001, Jerry and his wife became beloved members of the local community and parish at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, where his faith continued to be a cornerstone of his life.
Jerry was a man of many qualities: athletic, social, intelligent, fun-loving, and deeply dedicated to his family. For 70 years, he shared his life with his devoted wife, Ellen Marie “Elrie” Myers. He is survived by Elrie and their children, Lynne Myers Boehm (Richard) of Cypress, TX; Paul David Myers of Treasure Island, FL; Brian Thomas Myers of Seminole, FL; and Neil Sullivan Myers (Lawrie) of Eutawville, SC; as well as 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who will forever remember him with love and admiration. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his children, Mark Gerald Myers, Cara Myers Brown and his grandson, Ryan Myers, who remain lovingly remembered by their family.
A memorial service to honor Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 595 E. Main St, Avon Park, FL. Family and friends are invited to join in a reception following the service at the Grogan Center, where stories and memories of Jerry’s incredible life will be shared.
