Janet Ruth Ratay

Our beloved Janet Ratay peacefully left us on October 10, 2024.  Loved and missed by her family, she was a brilliant, independent woman who was devoted to caring for her family.  Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 26, 1939 as Janet Smith, she fell in love and married her devoted husband, Richard Ratay, and were happily married for 64 years.  They moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1972 to be near her parents, Joseph and Ruth Smith.  Richard and Janet owned and operated their own furniture refinishing business, until moving to Sebring.  Janet worked in real estate offices in Sebring until her retirement, when she then pursued her passion for gardening.  She was preceded in death by her two sisters.  She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Ratay, her daughter, Kimberley James (Jessie), her son, Gary Ratay (Desiree), her three grandchildren, Katherine Yelvington, Tyler McGregor and Jason Ratay, and her two great-grandchildren, Clay Yelvington and Braylee Yelvington.

A memorial service for Janet will be held at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, 4001 Sebring Parkway, Sebring, Florida, on October 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with family receiving friends beginning at 10:30am.  Her final resting place will be Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
