Janet B. Hood, 88, lifelong resident of Highlands County, Fl., passed away Friday, April 24, 2015, at Good Shepherd Hospice. Janet was born January 26, 1927, in Sebring, Florida, daughter of the late Hiram "Gene" E. Barker and Bertha Crutchfield Barker. In 1946, Janet married William "Bill" R. Hood. She worked at Southern Bell Telephone Company as an Operator. Together with her husband in 1960, they owned and operated Will-Rand Motors until 1973. Janet's greatest joy in life was being a homemaker. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed spending time in her garden. Janet also enjoyed cooking, sewing, ceramics, and reading. She was a member of the Union Congregational Ladies Guild and Avon Park Garden Club. She will always be remembered for her devotion and love to her family. In addition to her parents, and brother, Harold, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" R. Hood, and son, Charles D. Hood. Janet is survived by her son and his wife, Denis R. and Olivia Hood of Avon Park; four grandchildren, Justin (Jenny) Hood, Darin (Sally) Hood, Christin Vinson, and Kacy (Jeff) Winkle; along with seven great-grandchildren, Kayla and Ashlyn; Hailey, Dalton and Layna; Jagger and Havanna. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Historic Union Congregational Church in Avon Park, Fl., with Pastor Bill Breylinger officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, Fl., 33870.
