James Willis Yust passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. James was born on April 4, 1944, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Willis and Frances (Lore) Yust. James had a lifelong passion for automobiles, especially NASCAR. He enjoyed singing and was a member of a barbershop quartet. He proudly graduated from Kansas State University, where he also sang in the Glee Club, and remained a devoted fan of the K-State Wildcats throughout his life. James earned his private pilot's license and found great joy in serving his church, where he faithfully operated the visual and media equipment during services. On August 16, 1997, James married the love of his life, Karen Lanette Yust, with whom he shared many happy years. James is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Bain Yust; his loving daughter, Connie (Joey) Lehmkuhl of Lake Tapawingo, Missouri; his stepsons, Aaron (Dianne) Oelger of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Denton (Shannon) Oelger of Great Bend, Kansas; and his sister, Judy (Edward) Story of Bethlehem, Georgia. He was also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Mikaela Altis (Joe Hunter) of Harrisonville, Missouri; Madison Altis of Kansas City, Missouri; Peyden Oelger; Drew Oelger; Blake Lehmkuhl; and Alyssa Lehmkuhl; and his mother-in-law, Ila Jean Bain. He treasured each of them and the joy they brought to his life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Church of the Nazarene in Avon Park, Florida. Visitation to receive family and friends will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. James will be remembered for his love of family, his faith, his generous heart, and the enthusiasm he brought to the people and activities he loved. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
