James Patrick “Ricky” Hurley, age 75, of Sebring, FL, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024. Ricky was born May 10, 1948 in London, KY to James W. and Mabel (Turner) Hurley.
Ricky was a proud Blue Streak and graduated from Sebring High School in 1966, earning his undergraduate degree from Auburn University four years later, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Ricky trained as a helicopter pilot and was stationed in Pusan, South Korea for the duration of his tour during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, he was awarded the National Defense and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals.
After Ricky returned to Sebring, he graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Master of Business Administration and worked as a loan officer for First Union and Barnett Banks in Sebring, helping countless local families buy their first homes and start family businesses. An Eagle Scout, Freemason, and firefighter with the West Sebring Volunteer Fire Department, Ricky’s life was lived in service to his country and community.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the West Sebring Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, March 30th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the West Sebring Volunteer Fire Department.
Ricky is survived by a host of devoted friends and “his girls”, step-daughters Sarah-Beth (Hopton) Long and Amanda Harris.
