James R. Nickelson, Sr.

James R. Nickelson Sr., age 81, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in Lake City, FL. He was born on March 23, 1935 to the late William Grant and Ora Catherine (Cornelius) Nickelson. He graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1953, later served in the U.S. Navy, and then worked as a factory worker at the Swan Rubber Company. James was a member of the Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1999 coming from Bucyrus, OH. He is survived by his wife: Rita Stover Nickelson of Avon Park, FL; children: James, Jr. (Becky); Christine; Michael (Betty); Suzanne; Grant; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruth Jane and Joyce; four brothers: Bill, Gene, Jack, and Ray; two grandchildren: Ashley and Bryan; and his son-in-law Mike. A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church in Avon Park, FL. A Memorial Service will also be held in Bucyrus, OH at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church.
