James Alton Loveless, Sr., age 73 passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Avon Park, Florida. Mr. Loveless was born in Albany, Georgia to Walter Alton and Mildred Lee (McDonald) Loveless. Mr. Loveless graduated from Albany High School in 1956, he played in Ray Stevens 1st band called the Barons, and he played the trombone in several bands such as High Society, Golden Era Band, Sophisticated Swing Big Band, The Highlandaires, Highlands County Concert Band, the First Baptist Church Orchestra and 2 German bands. Mr. Loveless was a teacher for Avon Park schools, South Florida Community College and at North Florida Community College. He was a commentator on WWOJ Radio station for about 3 years in the 1980s with Do You Remember? show. He served in the Army National Guard, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Avon Park where he was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir and served on numerous church committees. Mr. Loveless is survived by his wife of 48 years-Lucy Vaughn Tatum Loveless of Avon Park, Florida; son-Jim Loveless (Gena) of Jacksonville, Florida and daughter-Lucy Anne Coleman (Keith) of Newnan, Georgia; 5 grandchildren-Lauren, Trey, Tatum, Kallie and Kenley. Visitation will be held Friday, May 13, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Avon Park with service beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jon Beck and Rev. Howard Leman officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 100 North Lake Avenue, Avon Park, Florida 33825.
