James Frederick LaFontaine of Sebring Florida finally made it ‘home’ on Friday, May 14th, 2021, just thirteen days shy of his 71st birthday. Retiring from the Ford Motor Company in Saline, MI in 2000, Jim was loved by many and had a knack for creating lifelong friendships with most anyone he met. Jim is survived by his wife Martha, his son Jason (Jackie) LaFontaine, and granddaughters Jolie, Hadley LaFontaine. His sister JoAnn Gould and brother Jerry (Wendy) LaFontaine, sister-in-law Loretta LaFontaine. Martha’s children Adam (Melissa) Behnke, Jason Behnke, Matthew (Brenna) Behnke, and Diane (Josh) Tacey, grandchildren Gretchen, Grayson, and Elowen Behnke, and numerous Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents John D. and Donna “Jean”, and his brother John L. “Butch” LaFontaine. Jim was a loving husband, an amazing father, and a proud US Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam war with the 11 th Armored Calvary Regiment. Jim was a good man with a noble heart and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the American Legion, AmVets, life member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, and Eagles.
A celebration of Jim’s long and storied life will happen on Sunday, June 13th, 2021 from 2-5 PM; UAW Hall located 2795 S. M-52. Chelsea, MI 48118.
