James Alan Hendrixson Sr. passed away peacefully, at home, on March 11, 2026 in Sebring, FL.

He was born in Chicago, IL in 1946 to parents Marguerite and Timothy and raised with siblings Timothy, Patricia (Birkeland), and Margene (Cutich). Jim spent over 22 years in service to the Elmwood Park, IL police department, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief and retiring as acting Police Chief in 1990. He and his wife Linda relocated to Naples, FL in 1990, where he worked in hospital and hotel security and code enforcement until retirement to Sebring, FL in 2002.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by Linda (Del Vecchio), his wife of 59 years, and his children James (Gina), Erik, and Timothy. He was a beloved brother-in-law to Michael, Dominic, Steven, Theresa, and Donna and cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Jim took pride in his role as a police officer, having a special fondness for the youth in the community. He was the first official youth officer in the department putting together programs like “lunch with Jim” at the local high school to build rapport and answer questions and concerns of local teenagers. He also gave talks and seminars at community meetings to teach personal safety and security for homes and vehicles.

Jim taught his family the importance of loving and supporting your family no matter how far away they lived. He took special pride in the family name and always stressed the need to preserve that name. He had a special wit and thoughtfulness and taught his sons the meaning of wisdom and how a few thoughtful words often carried more weight. He was sentimental, keeping small objects as a memento of a person or event. Jim was a man of love and humor, using light-heartedness in almost every situation he could. His presence is so missed.
