James Andrew Hurst, 87, died on January 30th ,2024 at Hillside Health and Rehabilitation in Zephyrhills, FL. He was born on October 29th, 1936, in Flat Rock, Alabama to Alex and Stella Hurst. James was the oldest of 14 children. He graduated from Sylvania High School in 1961. He served in the Air Force as an Air Policeman for 3 years. He married Verna (Williams) on May 31st, 1960. They had three children, Pamala V. McLean (Trace), Shelia E. Wright- Roehrig (Pete), and James L. Hurst (Melanie). They lived in Margate, FL until 1978. James worked construction, coached little league and softball. He was good with numbers and loved to fish and read Louis L’Amour books. They moved to Sebring, FL In 1978. James continued to work in the construction field while Verna worked for Sebring Middle School. James lost the love of his life in 1998 to breast cancer. He never remarried and retired in 2000. He moved to Zephyrhills, FL in 2011 to be closer to his daughter. He enjoyed bingo, word search and playing cards at the Senior Center. He was “PePa” to 10 grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren.
