James Robert (Red) Hogan January 7, 1926 - July 21, 2014 James Robert (Red) Hogan husband of Elizabeth (Dybas) Hogan passed away July 21, 2014 in Lake Placid, Florida with his wife Betty by his side. They were married November 7, 1977. Also survived by Son: Robert (Sherry) Hogan, Chesterfield, MO; daughters and son through marriage: Christine (Charlie) Bucko, Chesterton, IN; Romie (Annette) Dybas, Chesterton, IN; Audrey (Peter) Rice, Wheatfield, IN and Charmaine (Dick) Gore, Valparaiso, IN, grandchildren: Jason (Beth) Hogan; Catherine (Matt) Brier; Amy (James) Phares; Rachel (Scott) Sawaya; Rebecca (Deyne) Nicholson; Aaron (Jane) Downey; Jacob Dybas; Benjamin (Laura) Downey; Shawn (Jed) Kirkilewski-Flora; Kiki (Ben) Geaney; Pete Rice; Caleb Rice; Natalie (Dan) Pokorny; Jessica (Jeff) Wynder and Todd (Janet) Gore, 26 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and may loving nieces and nephews. Also his cherished cat: Tiger. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Edna (Robinson) Hogan, brothers: Willis and Clarence Hogan and sister: Leona Gaydos. He was born in Gary Indiana and then moved to Independence Hill a section of Merrillville, was a graduate of Merrillville High School. Jim was also a decorated WWII veteran and served in the South Pacific. He retired from Inland Steel and in 2004 moved to sunny Lake Placid, Florida where he had many wonderful friends. Jim was an avid reader, jack of all trades and loved working with wood. He made beautiful toys and was a miniature ship builder. He was very active in his Tropical Harbor community, where he served as head of the monthly pancake breakfast and was affectionately known as "the pancake man" and was also a member of Tropical Harbor Mustangs. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. Jim was a great story teller and was loved by all that knew him. The family would like to thank all his friends and Hospice workers who cared for him in his final days. There will be no service. Jim's final resting place will be at Sarasota Military cemetery.
