James R. Alhand

James R. Alhand passed away peacefully at home after a great morning spent shooting sporting clays with friends. He is survived by Ann, his wife of 57 years, daughter Liz Ann Alhand and son- in - law Ross van Wassenhove of Houston,TX daughter MaryLynn and Tim Flanigan, grandchildren Megan, Danny and Matthew of Suwanee, GA, son, Dennis Alhand, grandchildren James and Issac of Indianapolis, IN and son - in - law Bill Denton, grandchildren Danielle and Rachel of Indianapolis, IN. and his sister, Mary Rose Redlich of Sun Prairie, Wi. He was preceeded in death by his son Charles Alhand and his daughter Kathleen Denton. Jim was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Indianapolis and attended St. Edwards University in Austin Texas. Jim also served 3 years in the U. S. Army in Anchorage, Alaska and Tacoma Washington. Jims entire working career was spent in Industrial Sales, he retired from W.W. Grainger in 1996 and started living part time in Avon Park Fl. He was extremely proud of his 20 year volunteer career as a Reserve Deputy, first in Marion County finishing his law enforcement work in Hamilton County. Jim loved the Sheriffs Department and was a well-trained and professional police officer. Jim also spent many hours working at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. Jim also enjoyed tennis at East Indy Racquet Club, golf, hunting, especially on his property in Owen County, shooting trap, skeet and sporting clays and fishing. He enjoyed life and lived it well.
