James Harold Adams, age 83, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015 in Avon Park, FL. He was born on January 22, 1932 in Indiana, PA to the late Mel Vernon and Agnes (Borland) Adams. James has been a resident of Avon Park since 1992 having come from Venango, PA. He was a graduate of Cambridge Springs, PA High School in 1949, and then from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA with an Economics Degree in 1953. James married Phyllis Mae Jones on December 12, 1953. He then served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953 to 1955. When he returned from Korea he worked road construction while going to Edinboro College and earned a teaching certificate in math and science. He taught high school level math and science at Saegertown High School during the late 50's and early 60's. He and his brother Dale owned and operated Adams Pipeline Construction. James then retired and enjoyed 20+ years living in Florida for six months and Penna for six months of the year. He was a loving and caring husband and father who loved and served the Lord in many roles. Many lives were touched by his knowledge and teaching of the Bible. James was a member of the Venango United Methodist Church in Penna and while in Florida he attended the Sunridge Baptist Church in Sebring. James had a generous heart, always helping his family and neighbors. He enjoyed his tractors and vehicles, and puttering around his home. He could repair most anything. James was a lifelong learner and was always reading. He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Phyllis Mae Adams, his daughter: Cathy L. Lewis (David) of Avon Park, FL, son: Edward J. Adams (Denette) of Saegertown PA, Daughter-in-law: Darlene Adams, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his son: Thomas L. Adams, daughter: Diane L. Adams, brothers: George Edward Adams, Mel Vernon Adams, Jr., William Dale Adams, and sister: Mildred Elizabeth Beerbower. A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Sunridge Baptist Church in Sebring. Also a Memorial Service will be held on May 24, 2015 at the Venango United Methodist Church in Venango, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunridge Baptist Church in Sebring, FL or the Venango United Methodist Church in Venango, PA.
