Jack Dexter Wicklund

Jack Dexter Wicklund, 84, of Sebring, Florida, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in Sebring. He was born February 11, 1928, to Matt and Emma (Ostlund) Wicklund in Ironwood, Michigan. He graduated from Ironwood High School in 1945 and married Jan McNeil in Crystal Falls, MI on June 21, 1952. They lived in Crystal Falls for several years where he worked at McNeil's Mobil Station. He was known for being a vocal soloist in the area. He attended Northern Michigan University, where he sang the male lead in three major musicals. After graduating from college, he taught in Crystal Falls, Milford and Bark-River, Harris, Michigan. They moved to Florida in 1981 and he taught in Lake Placid and Avon Park. After retiring he enjoyed spending summers in Crystal Falls with family and friends. During the winter months, Jack volunteered at the Florida Hospital in Sebring. He was of the Lutheran faith; a Mason; former member of the Lions and MARSP. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Sebring; daughter, Marcia (Richard) Mathes, Wadsworth, IL; brother-in-law, Malcolm McNeil, Crystal Falls, MI; three nieces; two nephews; several cousins and grandchildren, Eric and Mark Mathes. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Crystal Falls, MI. Memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
