Jack Curtis Macklin, age 89, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 in Avon Park, Florida. He was born to Elton Curtis and Abbie Lorea (Whitmore) Macklin on May 4, 1934 in Avoca, Iowa. He graduated from Avoca High School in 1952 and became employed with Iowa State Telephone serving the communities of Tipton, Newton, and Greene. Jack relocated to Avon Park, Florida with United Telephone in 1974. He retired in 1983 after more than 31 years of service in the telephone industry. He was a member of the Lions Club and Telephone Pioneers. He was of the Christian faith and was actively involved with many church committees and local youth organizations. The years spent at his home on Lake Reedy in Frostproof were a dream come true for Jack. During his retirement, he enjoyed freshwater fishing, golfing, taking ocean cruises with his wife and friends, RV trips to NASCAR races, and helping friends and family.
Jack is survived by his Wife of 69 years– Nancy Macklin of Avon Park, FL; Sons – Tom Macklin of Avon Park, FL; Richard Macklin of Avon Park, FL; Daughter – Ellen O’Neill (Stephen) of Issaquah, WA; nine Grandchildren; twelve Great-Grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister – Shirley Drake and Daughter-in-law – Tammy Macklin. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11:00am at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00am.
