Irene Beatrice Rhine

Irene Beatrice Rhine, age 95, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 30, 2013 in Sebring, FL. She was born on October 18, 1917 in Rubio, Venezuela, South America to missionaries John and Anna (Gunderson) Christiansen. She joined Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) in 1943 and she and her husband Charles faithfully served the Lord for some 36 years in Nigeria West Africa. She was a nurse much of the time but also taught in a Bible school, and she and her husband were house parents at a missionary boarding school. Irene retired to Sebring, FL in 1982 and joined First Baptist Church where she was able to serve the Lord in various capacities. She is survived by her son John Rhine of Bolingford, IL and two daughters, Edith Pishosz of Tucson, AZ and Janet Rhine of Newbery, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1982. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the SIM Chapel. A short graveside service and interment will follow at 12:30 PM at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to SIM Retirement Village, 4114 Nigeria Street, Sebring, FL 33875 designated for use at Zalanga Advanced Bible School, Nigeria.
