Hugh Woodrow Howell, Sr. Hugh Woodrow Howell, Sr., age 93, of Lorida, Florida passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 in Lake Placid, Florida. He was born July 14, 1918 in Augusta, Georgia to Claude Augustus and Mary Develia (Walker) Howell. He was a Union Plumber, member of the Plumbers Union #519 in Miami, FL, of Catholic Faith, served in the U.S. Navy during WW II stationed at Johnston Island in the Pacific Theatre, spent 15 years participating in the Cracker Trail Ride, Loved his family, square dancing, and the outdoors. He has been a resident of Florida since 1935, moving to Miami from Augusta, GA, and a resident of Highlands County since 1980, coming from Miami, FL. He is survived by his Daughter Sharon Howell of Sebring, FL; Son Hugh Howell, Jr. (Sandy) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Son-in-law Ben Lee of Homosassa, FL; Sisters Mildred Lane and Margaret Long (George); Grandchildren Tony, Kimberly, Hugh, Brian, Alan, Cheryl, and Catherine; Several Great Grandchildren; and Friend Fredy Justus. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Helen M. Howell; his daughter Helen M. Lee; and his granddaughter Heather M. Howell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Adams officiating. Entombment will follow at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
