Myron Pickering, 81, of Sebring, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at his home. He was born on September 18, 1943, in Elwood, Indiana, to the late Paul and Grace Pickering. He worked for General Motors (Delco Electronics, Kokomo, Indiana) for over 30 years.He married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Hunsberger) Pickering on July 14, 1962. Their love story is what movies are made of. He was a basketball player and she was a cheerleader at Windfall High School in Windfall, Indiana.
Myron had been a resident of Tanglewood in Sebring for nearly 30 years after moving there in 1997 from Russiaville, Indiana. He enjoyed traveling with Linda in their RV for 9 years after they both retired.
Myron had many hobbies he enjoyed. One of his favorite hobbies was singing karaoke at The American Legion, American Veterans (AMVETS), or at his home. His other hobbies included traveling, watching IU basketball, fishing, and bowling.
He also loved supporting the men and women of our armed forces. Myron was a member of AMVETS National Post 21, Sons of American Legion Post 69, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the US Auxiliary, and the Moose Fraternity.
After a dear friend was diagnosed with cancer, Myron and Linda started a benefit to help raise money for the American Cancer Society in their community. Over the 15 years of organizing this event, they raised $547,098 for cancer research. It was one of the highlights of his life in giving back to his community.
Above all else, Myron was a family man. He was a wonderful husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved coaching his two kids in baseball and softball and attending any activities his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild were involved in over the years.
His legacy will live on, and he will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Myron is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Pickering (Sebring, Florida); his daughter, DeAnna James (Terry Goff) (Greenfield, Indiana); his son, Brian (Erin) Pickering (Carmel, Indiana); his sister, Claudia (Bill) Gillam (Elwood, Indiana); his nephew, Blair (Charlotte) Gillam (Chesapeake, Virginia), his grandchildren, Courtney James (New Palestine, Indiana), Kyle James (Folly Beach, South Carolina), Cody James (Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina), Sydney (Riley) Sawyers (Westfield, Indiana), Shelby Pickering (Nashville, Tennessee), Spencer Pickering (Pasadena, California), and great grandchild, Julien James Stacy (New Palestine, Indiana).
Celebrations of Life for Myron Pickering
The family will be having two Celebrations of Life to honor Myron. One will be in Sebring, Florida and the other in Indiana. Dates to be determined. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Legion Post 69 in Avon Park, FL.
