HOMER L. CISSELL Homer L. Cissell, 97, of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011, in Sebring, Florida. He was born December 7, 1913, to Charles and Ora Belle (Bunker) Cissell in Karnak, IL, and had been a resident of Metropolis since 1951, moving from Dongola, IL. He was an Electrician with a Utility Coop and had been a Mason since 1941. He enjoyed playing guitar and playing with local bands and repairing guitars, violins and mandolins. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. Mr. Cissell was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Verla Clayton Cissell and is survived by his daughters, Virginia Burns of Metropolis and Natalie (Paul) Steele of Crossville, TN; sons, Homer (Bonnie) Cissell, Jr. of Cobden, IL and Richard (Cindy) Cissell of Metropolis; half-brother, Jerry Altenberger of Karnak, IL; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C.
