Herbert C. Geuther

Geuther, Herbert C., of Sebring, FL, passed away April 6, 2013. He was 94 years old. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 10, 1918 and lived in Jenkintown, PA, where he graduated from Jenkintown High School in 1936. He married Gratha Zwart in 1940 and moved to Abington, PA. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and moved to Horsham, PA in 1945. He served on the Hatboro-Horsham School Board and attended the Lehman Memorial Methodist Church in Hatboro. He was a 74 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Jenkintown; a life member of the Consistory; a Life Member of Egypt Shrine in Tampa, FL and a Life Member and Past Secretary of the Highlands Shrine Club. He was a Vice-President of The Howard P. Foley Company Electrical Contractors and worked for the company 45 years before retiring in 1985. He moved to Sebring, FL in 1986 and became active in volunteer work. He served Meals on Wheels, helped with income taxes with AARP and taught Defensive Driving for the elderly for AARP. He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ and served in many capacities in that body. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gratha Geuther and married Carolyn E. Toothman in 2001. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Toothman Geuther; two daughters, Judy Hogarty of Hatboro, PA and Nancy Beatty of Sebring; step-daughter, Jeanne Griffith of Winter Garden, FL; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; four great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Sebring on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. George Miller and Rev. Ronald DeGenaro, Jr. officiating. Burial of his ashes will be in the Memorial Garden at the church. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations go to Somers Hospice House, 1110 Hammock Rd., Sebring, FL 33870.
